Hand Stitch Samples

Although it may not be ideal, or the quickest way of getting things done, hand sewing is an essential for every beginner to learn. It's an essential for anyone to learn really. Hand sewing will come in handy when your sweater snags on a sharp edge, or the button on your jacket falls off. But it's more than sticking a needle through fabric and just winging it.

As a beginning of the year project, I was given a few common hand stitches to mock. These include a baste stitch, running stitch, backstitch, and half-back stitch.
